At Human Community Services, Inc. (HCS), our vision and our mission are so broad and the need so great that we feel that our accomplishments can only be limited by our funding possibilities, because we have numerous worthwhile and urgent projects in those parts of the world, that are the focus of our concentration, namely the Caribbean, South America, Africa and the United States.
There are sufficient commonalities of both needs and culture in these geographic areas of concentration that our idea is to have some pilot programs in anyone of these areas of concentration, experience them, learn from them and then duplicate their improved versions in additional geographic areas either of the same country or export the successful model to another country.
Presently HCS envisions several projects already, such as:
- The HCS Children’s Homes.
This structure anticipates to provide safe, stable, homes for boys and girls who have been neglected, orphaned, abandoned, abused, or caught up in family turmoil. There will be two separate 100-room facilities, which will consist of classrooms, conference rooms, media and technology rooms with Internet access, sport complex and cafeteria, just to name a few.
The children will be taught core values such as: the pursuit of excellence, integrity, community integration and citizenship among others.
At the HCS Children’s Home, the idea is to give them counseling, lots of love, attention as well as a positive lifestyle. But the most important thing we give them is hope. In short, we provide for their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
- The HCS Health Clinics.
HCS anticipates building this structure in non-urban areas, where health care services are greatly lacking in these countries. In addition to the physical structures, we plan on having mobile clinics as well that go to the affected populations, primarily those that cannot travel to come to the mortar clinics. Such availability of the mobile clinics will be allocated to specific areas on a somewhat rigorous schedule so that the visited population can expect its presence. The overall benefits of these clinics, whether mortar or ambulant structures are to:
- Prevent epidemics and the spread of disease
- Protect against environmental hazards
- Prevent injuries
- Promote and encourage healthy behaviors
- Respond to disasters and assist communities in recovery efforts
- Assure the quality and accessibility of health services.
- HCS Community Housing projects.
Way before the earthquake hit the capital city of Haiti, Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas; Haiti was plagued by a lack of decent housing. The earthquake aggravated the situation and this ugly scar became visible with the pictures of people living under tents. However one cannot deny the fact that even outside the areas that were hit by the earthquake, the problem of lack of decent housing still exists, although not quite as visible, because its condition is not the subject of journalistic exploits. Yet we all know that his problem also exists in Africa, in South America, in the Caribbean and even in some areas within the United States. The thought of providing decent housing to people in need is extremely compelling to us at HCS and will merit our intense focus, as affordable communities are necessary in many of our areas of concentration. Our planned communities will have not only houses, but also, schools, parks, sport fields, theaters, professional training centers, etc…. We plan on building one such affordable community and duplicate the success and the lessons learned in other areas.
